Ethics: No Big Deal?

We’ve always been told ethics and conduct are important. But it seems with all the scandals at corporations that the unethical are severely rewarded and later severely punished. But that’s only if they’re caught. So if no one is caught, why should ethics in a business be important?

It’s been said that your ethics or core values are what you do when no one is watching. Abraham Lincoln said, “Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it. The tree is the real thing.” When we think of the great people in our lives personally and professionally it is hard to separate their work from their character isn’t it?

Ethics Training is vital to achieving good ethical standards in business.Training programs have been developed to assist. ACT with Integrity has a three step process to Analyze the situation, Consider the consequences and Take approprate action. But this is easier said than done. The ethics we have in business are likely the ethics we have in life. There are exceptions such as people who would never steal from a store but lift products from the office. It may seem different to most people but the consequences can mean losing your job which is actually a higher risk than a sterm warning from a store employee.

Most of us learn by example. Our parents were the greatest influence on our behavior and our ethics and conduct. Molding by example is the surest way for behaviors to change. The Lead with Integrity training video demonstrates how leaders can assure the proper behavior by seting a clear and ethical example with their own conduct.

Having great ethics and business ethics for that matter is not easy. It it were everyone would be looked at in a positive light. And that’s what it really comes down to. What we get with unethical behavior is short term. Ethics is how we are remembered. How our family remembers us. We can be known as someone who had great ethics and conduct or be known as Bernie Madoff.

Coaching Can Be A Stressful Job

Who has more stress the third base coach of the New York Yankees or upper management coaching training at your company? Trick question. Both of their jobs ride on it so it’s the same. The permaters for what defines success at any coaching position is the success of the team and its players. The benefits of management courses is the work you do extends beyond yourself to people who coach others making your input incredibly valuable.

Asking smart questions is a reasonable start. How do you get people to work harder? How do you demonstrate your leadership skills without being a jerk or being a pushover? This is the backbone to the training program Bury My Heart at Conference Room B. But how do you make it stick? Habit and repetition.

Other stressful areas of coaching can include overcoming the fear of not being liked especially if you’ve been promoted and you’re now coaching peers. In the program Peer Today, Boss Tomorrow managers will learn how to properly discipline a peer, manage co-workers that are older, and even avoid issues where it appears you are showing favoritism.

But everyone has a boss and how do you answer to your own when your people arent’ doing what you want them to? The most rewarding experience a manager can have is seeing their people doing what they were trained to do without even telling them. That is the power of good coaching. It goes beyond yourself. Imagine the whole office functioning this way. Everyone motivated and trained to do what they do best and you re hands off.

The stress of management training courses comes with the territory. Those days when everyone is doing exactly what they are supposed to are rare. But when they happen it’s magical. For the other days when you’re coaching training you simply have to understand that the success of yourself relies on the success of those others you coach.

The Benefits of Diversity

So much has been written about what diversity training means or what will happen to organizations if they don’t conduct it. Many don’t focus on the widespread benefits of diversity training in the workplace.

Some interesting facts about what is diversity reside in the United States. The statistics say that 36% of the workforces are people of color. And 47% of the workforces are women. But when you look at the boardrooms across the country only 4.2% of senior positions are occupied by people of color. And women fill only 3.6% of senior positions.

The benefits to having a diverse workforce however have been staggering. The greatest innovations and ideas come from companies with diverse workforces. It makes sense as different ideas gel from different perspectives to create products and services otherwise unrealized within companies with employees of similar cultural backgrounds.

Over recent years there has been a need to make sure that these diverse workforces respect and value the opinions of one another. In the training program MEET on Common Ground it demonstrates the need to explore differences with employees while encouraging respect and inclusion.

The proof of how companies can thrive in diverse work setting is in the program Diversity: Food for Thought. When differences are valued the work productivity increases as discrimination diminishes. This inclusion also leads to a more respectful workplace and cuts down on conflict as well.

Diversity training can be summed up by saying it’s necessary or required. But the fact of the matter is according to the US census bureau there will be no racial or ethnic majority in the US by 2050. The importance of understanding our differences and embracing them grows stronger every year. Defining what is diversity and its benefits seems to be a great start in this next step towards the future.

Sexual Harassment Education Should Be Taught in the Workplace

Sexual harassment is a growing issue in offices across the nation and management teams can now learn what to look for by watching sexual harassment training videos in the privacy of their own office or home. In today’s modern workplace, sexual harassment is more common but harder to see due to the use of technology. An executive team must use the most effective sexual harassment training techniques so they can quickly be alerted to the problem and find a resolution.

Corporate training videos are more popular today than ever with educational topics for all areas of the business. Sexual harassment is an important issue for an executive team to be knowledgeable, since it can affect not only teams within the company, but also personal lives of employees.

There are multiple sexual harassment training videos on this topic. One video is Sexual Harassment Let’s Get Honest and Sexual Harassment: Awareness, Perception, and Prevention. A human resource manager can leverage these training videos as a teaching aide for his staff.

The training video Sexual Harassment Let’s Get Honest is a powerful presentation breaking down harassment and how to prevent it. Technology allows an employee to harass another co-worker without physically being there but with 100% of the same negative impact. Beyond technology harassment, a supervisor must be aware of the traditional signs such as not respecting personal space and improper touching or hand gestures. This title can be used to define harassment in general but focuses on sexual harassment.

Prevention training is a key element when educating a team and the popular video Sexual Harassment: Awareness, Perception and Prevention breaks down these points. Setting the guidelines to increase awareness is the first step to prevent harassment. A team’s perception of what is sexual harassment is set by the ability of the corporation to state their position. This title will ultimately decrease the chance of harassment in the workplace allowing the staff to feel safe.
